More About The New Scholarship for Students in Older Adult Services Pathways
In recognition of our commitment to the field of aging, the Board of the Indiana Geriatrics Society announces a Scholarship of $1500 to be awarded to a qualified student with a declared interest in older adult services.
In addition, every applicant will be awarded a no-cost 1-year membership in the Indiana Geriatrics Society!
Interested students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited institution in the state of Indiana are required to submit 1) application which includes a statement of intent to pursue professional work to benefit older adults and 2) a creative essay. Essays will be evaluated based on originality, insight, and narrative strength and must be no longer than 1,500 words.
Application due date is 11:59 p.m., March 31, 2025, with winner announcement in April 2025 at the Indiana Geriatrics Society Spring Dinner Event on April 24, 2024.
Specific instructions for IGS Student in Older Adult Services Pathways
Scholarship Eligibility
Student declares interest in older adult services pathway on application.
Student verifies current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited institution within the state of Indiana. Part time students are included. Please provide registration information.
Student attests to clean criminal history record. (Permit a criminal background history check.)
Student verifies good academic standing and have a GPA of 3.0 (or higher) at the time ofthe disbursement of funds. (Student submits transcript from educational institution.)
Student agrees to provide feedback about my progress and how the award contributed to the outcome.
Student accepts award after notified via email and must accept the award in writing via reply e-mail to receive it. (Funds will be disbursed by the IGS Treasurer in the form of a check sent to the award recipient’s mailing address.)
Complete a follow-up questionnaire at approximately a one-year juncture.
Excluded: Postgraduate student, such as resident or fellow; prior recipient of the award.

Evaluation Criteria
Essays will be anonymously evaluated using a rubric based on originality, insight, narrativestrength, novelty. Essay length should be a minimum of 1000 words (2 pages of double-spaced text) andmaximum of 1,500 words
